Why this is useful
Visa stays, passport validity rules and insurance policies are all counted in days. Counting them correctly — including whether the first and last days count — avoids overstaying by accident.
How it is calculated
Nights = end date − start date. Days counting both ends = nights + 1. The 'days to add' field shows the date a set number of days after the start.
Worked example
A trip from 1 June to 14 June is 13 nights, but 14 days if both the arrival and departure days count — which is how many entry rules count your stay.
Common mistakes
- Counting nights when the rule counts days, or the other way round.
- Forgetting that rolling-window rules, like the Schengen 90/180 rule, look back over earlier trips too.
- Ignoring time zones when a flight arrives the next calendar day.
Questions
Does this check the Schengen 90/180 rule?
No. It counts days for a single date range. For Schengen, use the European Commission's official short-stay calculator.
Do arrival and departure days both count?
Under many entry rules, including Schengen, yes. Check the specific rule for your destination.
