Why this is useful
Drive and coach times quoted by apps often leave out stops. Adding realistic breaks gives an arrival time you can actually plan check-ins and connections around.
How it is calculated
Moving time = distance รท average speed. Total = moving time + (stops ร minutes per stop). Arrival = departure time + total.
Worked example
Example only: 300 km at an average 80 km/h is 3 h 45 min of driving; two 15-minute stops make it 4 h 15 min, so leaving at 08:00 means arriving around 12:15.
Common mistakes
- Using the speed limit as the average speed โ towns and traffic pull it down.
- Forgetting time-zone changes on long journeys.
- Not leaving a buffer before a flight or ferry departure.
Questions
How do I enter 8:30?
Use decimal hours: 8.5 means 08:30, 14.25 means 14:15.
Can I use it for train journeys?
For scheduled trains, the timetable is more accurate. Use this for driving, cycling or coach estimates.
